{"id":378,"date":"2017-01-23T23:09:52","date_gmt":"2017-01-23T23:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/davidjohntaylor.co.uk\/?p=378"},"modified":"2017-01-23T23:37:36","modified_gmt":"2017-01-23T23:37:36","slug":"amazon-echo-and-google-make-alexa-work-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidjohntaylor.co.uk\/index.php\/2017\/01\/23\/amazon-echo-and-google-make-alexa-work-for-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Echo and Google &#8211; Make Alexa work for you!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I really like a number of the Alexa skills available, but doing a web search is always a hit or miss affair. &nbsp;All Echo or Dot owners will know the fateful answer of, &#8220;Sorry, I don\u2019t have the answer to that question.&#8221; &#8211; ARGH! &nbsp;You can workaround the issue a little by asking for a Wikipedia entry in relation to a topic, but it&#8217;s still not as slick as interacting with Google via your smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d previously had a hunt around for a skill which might give me better search capabilities, but hadn&#8217;t found anything. &nbsp;Then, recently in a number of Facebook pages I follow, there was a buzz about the release of some code which, when set-up on AWS Lambda might give everyone the search engine they&#8217;d all&nbsp;sought.<\/p>\n<p>If only we could use Google to do our web search, life would be so much easier&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_380\" style=\"width: 696px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-380\" class=\"wp-image-380 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/davidjohntaylor.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amazon-echo-e1485212432279.jpg\" width=\"686\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davidjohntaylor.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amazon-echo-e1485212432279.jpg 686w, https:\/\/davidjohntaylor.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amazon-echo-e1485212432279-300x130.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Of course it can Google, it just needed convincing!<\/p><\/div>\n<h1>&#8220;OK Alexa, ask Google&#8230;&#8221;<\/h1>\n<p>Yep, and its relatively easy!
